In a (Steam) store full of early access games, very Few see the light of Day. A game Must have potential and Gameplay Longevity to keep players Funding and Investing hours into it to finally break early access title. Among these games is Scum. Now Scum isn’t something New, Its combination of all the games we have played such as rust, Day Z , PUBG , etc .As it is a mixture of all the elements of games we love, The question still remains that is it Worth it?
Devolver Digital, a publisher known for some incredible indie hits like Hotline Miami, Shadow Warrior 2, and Enter The Gudgeon, has released ‘SCUM’ into early access which has sold more 700,000 copies. Now that’s a Huge number and Scum could really be the next Big Thing. Scum can be played in both Single Player and Multiplayer Modes but it is recommended to be played Online because Lets get real! No one wants to run around meaninglessly and survive from just the NPC threats
Now Scum has a vast list of servers to jump into and Once the server is selected you Get right into the game Pretty Quickly taking all your progress with you.
Once you start a new game you are greeted with a Character customization screen and you Select your Avatar from Limited Choices at your disposal. After avatar customization, some Set of
Now jumping into the world of Scum u immediately Realize how beautiful the world really is. The trees are Well textured as well as the Lush green Grass and House structures really makes u admire developer hard work. The Game even runs solid for an “Early Access” title with good optimization.
Now There are 3 types of enemies in Scum. Mechs, Zombies and Other Players. The Zombies are really easy to Evade/Kill but when u come face to face with a mech guarding a Base, You’re Screwed. Mechs are really “OP” enemies in the game because one round from their Mini Guns can Put You down nice and easy. On the Other hand other players are also a threat but not always since this isnt PUBG either. In my play through I came across a Bunch of friendly Players who gave me loot and fought off zombies with me which was really fun!
Now Scum has Detailed Stats that Display Your vitamin and mineral levels, body temperature, muscle mass, stomach volume, and even the number of teeth remaining in your face which is a lot to take in frankly but helps none the less. There is also wildlife in the game which is extremely hard to hunt without the proper tools and skills. Imagine Scum as a Simulation of sorts where u have to survive but also Helping others and Letting others help along the way…yea something like that! Because With that Huge Map u really got to stir things up to keep Playthrough Entertaining or else it becomes nothing more than a Stale walking simulator.
The Verdict is that Scum Seems and Looks Promising but just like every other “Early Access” Titles, it is plagued with bugs which do not Make the Game unplayable fortunately! But does Hinder the Progress and Overall Experience. The Sheer Size of map is great Yet nothing really else to do in it except Running Around looting houses especially when suddenly u come to Realize there is no other Player in the server you chose, it does Kind of Makes the Experience Meaningless and Wishing You could spend that time Playing something else.
Priced At around 8.19$ Scum really is a Game that should Be waited on to see what the developers have in mind for future additions but in the meantime if u willing to invest time and money, Scum Isn’t a Bad choice either Considering many Other Positive Aspects as well.
